Primus inter pares

“Every life is in many days, day after day. We walk through ourselves, meeting robbers, ghosts, giants, old men, young men, wives, widows, brothers-in-love, but always meeting ourselves.”
— James Joyce

First Among Equals follows the lives of four individuals dedicated to politics and one day occupying 10 Downing Street. Their journey climbing the greasy pole and navigating the smoke and mirrors of politics is very personal and immensely relatable.

Life is many days and the lives of the four protagonists goes through peaks and troughs as we follow their personal lives and political careers. The ebbs and flows of their individual fortunes inextricably tied to the fortunes of their political party.

There is growth brought about by both triumph and tragedy. There are exceptionally highs and crushing lows. There is concession and there is acceptance. After 25 years, there is finally a first among equals, whose identity depends on which edition you read.
