Desolation in the city

“Everybody’s talking at me
Can’t hear a word they’re saying
Only the echoes of my mind…
I’m going where the sun keeps shining
Through the pouring rain”
— Frederick Neil

Midnight Cowboy is a Jon Voight classic. Dustin Hoffman was brilliant as well in his supporting role. The films tells it like it is. No special effects, no euphemisms, nothing left to speculation and understanding. Raw and unadulterated.

Joe Buck decides to move to New York to try and hustle himself a fortune but ends up being beatdown by the city. He makes an unlikely friend along the way and a friendship develops that keeps them both alive. The ending was dour yet fitting.

I have always maintained that New York is one of the most intimidating and daunting cities in the world. You face the full spectrum of everything life can throw at you and sometimes that will break people down who are just not ready for it.
