Harry Potter and Growing up

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
— Dumbledore

Harry Potter was an institution growing up. It was the one series everyone had read and could discuss without divisiveness. At its core, it’s the tale of good vs evil, but it is also so much more than that. Harry Potter was a world to lose yourself in.

Harry Potter is simple, elegant, storytelling for young audiences that allows them to escape to a different world and see things from a different perspective. Easier said than done, as this is the premise behind almost every novel. Few have executed it so well.

Perhaps it’s because Harry was a flattish character surrounded by more complex, well rounded characters that we could so easily fill in the gaps seeing things from his perspective and create our own meaning in his journey. It was great growing up with Harry.
