The World of Advertising at its Infancy

“Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is OK. You are OK.”
— Don Draper

Mad Men is a time-period drama set in the 60s which shows us the fledging world of advertising at its infancy and the people who helped make it what it is today. It shows us the mindset of the people back then, their hopes, fears, and aspirations.

Don Draper is an exceptionally complicated and multidimensional character. The supporting cast is equally interesting and their interactions with each other and the world of the 60s is immensely interesting. The execution is flawless.

As much as I like Mad Men, I can’t imagine how people watch this show when working really demanding jobs. The only thing worse than working 12-14 hour days is to come home and watch another guy working even longer hours.
