Desert Island Castaway

“Thus we never see the true State of our Condition, till it is illustrated to us by its Contraries; nor know how to value what we enjoy, but by the want of it.”
— Daniel Defoe

Islands are so much fun in books and films. There is so much to explore and discover. Man against nature. Man becoming wild like the wolf to tame his surroundings. If only islands were really like that, but we can dream.

Robinson Crusoe is about the struggles of one man stranded on an island after being shipwrecked. The book describes his journey to eventual salvation while living in isolation from civilization on a small island.

Please do not read the original unabridged version. It is not pleasant and is not fitting with the times in either spirit or ideology of the protagonist. Read the modern children’s version instead. That way the story can be enjoyed.
