A nation built on sand

The United Arab Emirates is a collection of seven emirates that form the union known as the UAE, which in turn forms the association known as the Gulf Cooperation Council. Essentially, this is a loose confederation of previously, at times currently, warring tribes.

The vast riches found underneath the ground have transformed parts of this state overnight into a civilized society, with all the amenities money can buy. However, scratch the veneer and underneath it is still the same society of old, masquerading as refined.

This is where tens of millions of people from the Subcontinent, who did not possess the means to migrate to better countries, migrated to in search of work and sustenance. Whether this has really solved anything or just pushed our problems into the future remains contentious.
